Manchester United may need to up their offer if they want Kieran Trippier with Atletico Madrid in no rush to sell.
The versatile defender has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League this summer.
Trippier left Tottenham for Madrid two years ago but is about to enter the final 12 months of his deal.
United have been heavily linked with an £18m move as they look to bolster their options in defence.
But the Sun reports that Atletico have no desire to let the player go and want to hold talks with Trippier about his future.
The Red Devils may have to up their offer to convince the Spanish champions to sell whilst the England star himself may have to force the issue if he wants to secure a move to Old Trafford.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been United’s regular right-back, but doubts exist over his ability going forward.
Trippier meanwhile has just played a starring role for England at Euro 2020 with his versatility a huge plus.
The 30-year-old has previously showcased his quality in the Premier League with Tottenham and Burnley.
United are also looking to complete a deal for Raphael Varane, whose Real Madrid future looks to be over.
The Frenchman’s contract is winding down and Los Blancos are resigned to his departure, albeit against their will.
A £50m has been touted with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side close to finalising personal terms with the player.
Jadon Sancho’s transfer is also set to be announced sooner rather than later.
The Borussia Dortmund winger has been on United’s radar for some time and Solskjaer said at the weekend that paperwork was all that needed to be completed.
He said: “Small little details left. Hopefully it will be announced soon.
“Let’s get the paperwork done and get it all over the line. Then I can say what I truly feel about the player.”
Solskjaer has also claimed that the returning Jesse Lingard is part of his plans going forward, despite loaning his out midway through last year.
The midfielder rediscovered his best form at West Ham and now returns looking to force his way into the first team picture.
“He was one of the positives. He’s a Manchester United player and he wants to fight for his place,” said Solskjaer.
“He’s come back bright, confident and with lots of energy. I think everyone saw what he did at the end of last season with West Ham
“He’s still in my plans. I expect him at Man Utd at the start of the season.”
